Potato Bake & White Elephant Auction

We were welcomed by the wonderful aroma of baked potatoes and the sight of garnishes, salads and desserts.  The auction and meeting would wait.  We ate first!

Maria began the “breeze through” meeting.

She thanked Jill for providing her home for this auction and “Spud Fest.”

Minutes of the previous meeting were read.

No treasurer’s report was given since Dorothy was in sunny Arizona.

Pat reported $111.10 in the Sunshine Fund.  Diane won the 50/50 drawing and donated her $11.

Old Business

Bunco and Bingo parties will be held again this summer.  Dates and locations will be announced.

A site for the July auction is yet to be determined.

Patti updated us on the area wide garage sale the first weekend in Mat.  It is an all day event, and we can set up in front of her home in Newport.

New Business

Maria suggested that toward the end of the summer season, when people are starting to close up their cabins for the winter, we ask if they have any nonperishable food they would like to donate to the Newport Food Bank.  LOL could collect any donations and deliver them to the food bank.  This could save having to pack more home with them…and be charitable as well.

The auction of treasures began.  A total of $73 was raised for items sold, and Pam donated an extra $10.

May 23, 2012  FAKE meeting minutes- FAKE, I tells ya!
8 members present and one Male Crasher (we thought he was a Chippendale, but disappointment prevailed when it turned out he lived at the lake)

None of our officers were able to attend, so we had no call to order, just unsupervised mayhem.

A resolution was proposed for the August elections: The Pres is elected for life and killed off when tired of office. No method selected. No committee formed. No candidates came forward. We were exhausted!

We volunteered Treasurer Dorothy to pay all our expenses to Kauai to recover from our exhaustion. It was seconded.

Alice said she brought a rose for the May birthday gals. It was Rose Doupe.

Pat said she had $149 in the Sunshine fund at the end of April, but paid out $100 to Dorothy for the general fund charities. That left $49. The 50/50 brought in $15, with $7.50 won by Pat Wood.

We ate and didn’t adjourn cuz we are the WWOL..... the Wild Women of the Lake! Winking smile

You can also donate items for sale with the proceeds going into the general fund for our charities. Please mark a price on any items donated. Anything not sold will be given to a charity. Deb Storms has offered to help out at Patti’s.

$11.50 was won by Julie Johnson in the 50/50 and generously donated to the general fund.

The summer auction will be in July in one of Maria’s pole buildings at the lake. She will chair the committee and have help from Jill and Diane.

“Grub ‘n More”

Maria signaled the beginning of the meeting about 12 noon.  Attractive cloth totes were given to members present.  Maria said they were “good customer” gifts from the gift bag company.

No minutes were read because the secretary forgot to bring the binder (Sorry, but remembering to bring her umbrella seemed more important at the time…). Members did receive January’s minutes by email.

Treasurer Dorothy reported $1233.93 in our account.  A check from Maria for $151 (from gift bag sales) brings it up to $1384.93.

Dorothy then announced the “surprise” promised members who attend this meeting…  Your lunch will be paid for by LOL!

Sunshine Lady Pat reported $89.10 in the Sunshine Fund.  Pam won the 50/50 drawing and promptly donated her share ($11) back to LOL.

Old Business

Jill will host the potato bake/white elephant sale in March.  She will provide the baked potatoes.  Members are asked to bring toppings, salads or desserts.  She will need a head count.

New Business

Patti will take gift bags to the Cub Scout banquet to see if she can sell some to those attending.  Part of the profit will be for the scouts.

Hello Ladies,

Winter seems to have set in upon us and plans to stay awhile.
Walking is hazardous with all the ice, so use caution moving about.
We are looking ahead to 2012 and would like to have any input from you regarding what activities you would enjoy doing this year.
Some of the "old standards" that everyone enjoys will be continued such as the White Elephant Sale and potato bake, held in March; the Progressive Luncheon in July, more details coming later; and Fund Raising activities to help our charities.
Some recent additions that we plan to continue are bingo, bunco, and helping a Christmas family.
A craft class or two and wine tasting hopefully can be done this year.  Scheduling was difficult with our young at heart ladies always on the go.
Suggestions for new activities and events would be appreciated.

Our January meeting was held at a fairly local restaurant, recently under new management.
The food was very good, portions very generous, and service, prices, and decor were very pleasing.  All the ladies present decided to hold our February meeting there as well.  It is centrally located between Sacheen and Spokane.

Please try to join us.  There will be a surprise for all those that attend.

Below are the minutes for the January meeting.

Enjoy our beautiful lake, stay warm and safe,

Maria
.

Ladies of the Lake Meeting

January 25, 2012

"Grub and More"

Maria called the meeting to order at 12:40 p.m.

There were no minutes from the previous meeting.

Dorothy gave the treasurer's report:

*Current balance in the checking account is $1180.43. She has a few more checks to deposit, and Maria has a check for $151 from Gift bag sales as well.

$862.50 (General Fund)

$130.44 (Christmas Party)

$187.47 (Sunshine Fund)

*The same charities (P.O. PUD Neighbors in Need, Food Bank, Head Start, Long Term Care, Hospice and the Fire Dept.) benefited from our fund-raising. $300 went to each of the first five and $100 to the Fire Dept.

Sunshine Lady, Pat, reported $99.20 in the fund.

Pam won the 50/50 drawing and accepted her half of the $18.00 with a big smile.

OLD BUSINESS

*

Maria said we had an overwhelming response (including gift cards, clothing, cash...everything on the list) for our Christmas family, not only from LOL members, but co-workers of Sue's as well. She said, "This is one of the best projects we have decided to do."

LOL also had a basket of goodies (stationary, stamps, lotions, etc.) delivered to a very deserving lady, who is now in a nursing home.

Thank you notes/letters were passed around.

*It is apparent that our LOL calendars have been missed this year. Many people has asked about them. It was decided to try again for

2013. Jill graciously volunteered (?) to check out options for printing costs.

NEW BUSINESS

*Gift bags that were not sold (about 400 large and 300 small) will be saved and sold this year...possibly at a garage/craft sale. Patti

will check out the annual area-wide sale the first weekend in May.

*Jill has compiled an updated name and address list for LOL members. She will see that everyone has a copy. Our membership has dropped

from 83 members to 53 members.

*Our "White Elephant" meeting/sale won't be at Sally Gallo's this year. Jill volunteered to host it.

*Julie said Linda Doffing has volunteered to host the July auction if it can be held in her yard. Julie will do the research.

*Julie will be busy because she will also check with Berta continuing

her organizing the progressive luncheon, and she will talk with Charlie about staying involved.

*Maria jumped on the chance to organize Bunco and Bingo, even though she will be out of commission for several weeks after her

foot surgery.."

Attendees: Maria Bullock, Jill Short Dorothy Beyersdorf, Pat Wood, Julie Johnson, Pam Zarko, Patti Risner, Christy Howard (Patti's friend) and Jeri Prange.

The 50/50 grew to $30, and Deb Storms won…with great enthusiasm.

Old Business:
Dorothy reported on the family that LOL adopted for Christmas.
She read an email from Marilyn Christianson, from Rural Resources,
stating how appreciative the family was. The $150 designated for
this, as well as donations, provided three gifts for each of the 3
adults and 5 kids. The paper products (toilet paper/paper towels)
were greatly appreciated, as these products cannot be purchased with
food stamps. A $75 Safeway gift certificate was also included.

$300 left over will be used for next year’s adopted family.

Sug, as requested by Gina Lillie, reported on her survey. Gina had
stated,”If less 1/3 of those surveyed did responded, the survey
would be invalid.” The number of respondents (17) amounted to only
24%, therefore, this is not the opinion of the majority of members.
Average number of years of membership-10.8
Average number of meetings attended per year-9

visit her, please call in advance.

Sug reported that LOL has 74 members. 17 are considered “active.” 33
participate when they are able, and 21 are out of town or are
working.

All members present were gifted (by Sug) with handcrafted, sweet
rosebuds…and a ”To-do” list and valentine pencil. She then revealed
that we were to make use of the paper and pencil to list our ideas for
fundraisers this year.
Jill agreed to do calendars again. Old pictures were again suggested,
as was pictures of the different sections/neighborhoods around the
lake, with each month devoted to one of those sections. A community
spaghetti dinner, craft fairs and a garage sale were also offered.

Suggestions for next month’s meeting included lunch at the culinary
school at S.C.C. or at Pauline’s across from Big R in Spokane.

A plaque was presented to Beryl thanking her for her past service as secretary.
The Christmas Community get together that was held in the fire station on 12/5 was enjoyed by a little smaller group than last year. Someone told Perry Pearman that it was the best they had attended. Mike Nokes, the new fire chief was there. The 50/50 raffle was won by Jo Elsom, who donated the money back to the group.  Jill said she would send thank you cards to Jo and Mr. & Mrs. Claus. One possibility for the money Jo donated, would be to use it for the Christmas family Rural Resources chose for us. The photo of the festivities will be in today’s Newport Miner newspaper.

Carol Hood has resigned as Secretary. Jeri Prange volunteered to take notes, if someone would be her back up, for those times the weather prevents her attendance. Pam Zarko took notes today, and will be her sub.

Dorothy gave the Treasurer’s report. We have $1,901.32 after checks were sent to the charities suggested by the committee. We have $150 reserved to round out items individual’s select for our Christmas family. Debbie Storms and Tracy F. donated $90 toward the family, too.  Rural Resources selected a disabled single mother whose elderly mother and 5 children live with her in space in a house offered by a disabled friend of the family. Take unwrapped items from the list to Dorothy’s house in the next week, so they can be inventoried, wrapped and delivered.

Karen Averitt reminded us that we can donate to Hospice in Shirley Woltering’s name, as we did for Genie Smead. Janice Krogh is in failing health, and has Hospice visits now. Extra food was taken to the Krogh’s after the get together at the fire station. Several members have taken dinners to them. Janice is alert and enjoys visits, but please call first.

We took a lunch break, then resumed with the 50/50 drawing. Julie Johnson won $14.50. Extra candy canes and gift cards were handed out to those present.

Jill Short, our immediate past president, passed the gavel to Sug. Incoming President, Sug, presented Jill with a gift card for a yard ornament and a card of appreciation for her 5 years as President. Julie Johnson and Alice Hoffman reminded us of the rules for gift “stealing” and we began the gift exchange.

Luncheon Meeting

June 23, 2010

There was no May meeting, due to Memorial Day Weekend. The June meeting was held at Pam Zarko’s. President Jill Short thanked Pam for hosting the potluck luncheon. The food was delicious!

Received letters of thanks for donations from Newport Head Start, signed by the kids and the Pend Oreille PUD Neighbors In Need program.

After noting that next month is the Auction, Jill explained what kind of items to bring to sell: new or nearly new items, such as, a quilt, purse, home décor, wine, bath oils, gift baskets, candles, bird house, snack trays, kitchen towels, cookies, jewelry, wall hangings, and hurricane lamps. It was suggested that the more costly items have a starting bid placed by the donor. Remember that the proceeds go to our charities. The Auction again this year is at Gina Lillie’s on July 28th. The fun starts at 5:30pm. If you’d like a tour of Gina’s beautiful home, come around 5pm. Please bring finger foods and your chairs. More information to follow. It was discussed that we need to find a new venue for next year’s Auction.

Volunteers for the nominating committee for new Officers for 2011 are Berta Dumont and Pam Zarko. The following incumbents volunteered to be on the ballot: Dorothy Beyersdorf-Treasurer, Kathy Newcomb-Sunshine Lady and Carol Hood-Secretary.

Kathy requested that ladies bring $1 and $5 bills instead of $10s and $20s for the 50/50 tickets. .

Dorothy suggested that we should sell the calendars for $10 instead of $12. It’s easier, and people will more readily buy a calendar for $10. Still looking for old time photos for the calendar—get them to Jill by July 15th

The Treasurer reported a balance of $2,084.74. There are 63 cookbooks left to sell. Dorothy made a great suggestion that if each member was to buy 1 more cookbook to sell or give as a gift, we would then have them all sold and make another $600 for our charities. We have made $1,008 on the cookbooks, as of the June meeting.

Dorothy also reminded people to pay their annual $5.00 dues. This will pay for January 2010 thru December 2010.

Sunshine Lady, Kathy Newcomb, reported that the current balance is $210.90.

Sunshine Lady, Kathy Newcomb, reported the purchase of stamps and cards, resulting in a $204.70 balance.  The 50/50 raffle resulted in Bonnie Stafford winning $15.00.

Birthdays for the month of April are: Debbie Storms (1st); Angela Newcomb & Cindy Meyers (6th); Louise Granacki (8th); Diane Davis (9th); Lorie Storms (14th); Linda Benzo (18th); Kay Shankle (19th); Marguerite Beyersdorf & Nancy Brooks (20th); Bonnie Stafford (22nd); and Karen Averitt (24th).  Happy Birthday was sung to Marguerite Beyersdorf.  Upcoming May birthdays will be:  Cathy Retterer (3rd); Terri Haworth (4th); Kerry Semro (5th); Amanda Barklen-Rowley (6th); Linda Doffing (10th); Jeanne Ross & Dorothy Beyersdorf (21st); Louise Dyekman & Julie Johnson (23rd); Jill Short (24th); and Genie Smead (29th).

Maria Bullock, filling in for Secretary Carol Hood, read the minutes from the March meeting provided by Carol Hood.  Dorothy Beyersdorf noted a needed correction to the minutes.  At the last meeting, a motion was made and passed to give the funds raised by the attendees and participants of the auction be given to those attending the March meeting.  It was suggested that remaining funds from the auction proceeds be donated to the Neighbors in Need through PUD.

President Short then covered new business:
1)  Calendars for 2011 - if 250 are ordered, the cost will be $6.92/ea, if 300 are ordered, $6.50 /ea.  Either quantity will result in profit of over $3.00 per calendar, even if we reduce the price to $10 per calendar.  It was urged to get in photos, color or black/white; old or recent photos are welcome.   The best photos for enlarging should be highest resolution on your camera and submit 5X7 prints.
2)  Based on the fund raising options we have (cook books, calendars) we should be able to give more monies to the chosen charities.
3)  July auction may be at Gina Lillie’s again this year but all details have not been worked out yet.
4)  Karolyn Lee & Jeri Prange have volunteered to help Jill Short & Pam Zarko with the calendar this year.
5)  Volunteers are needed for:  Help with pontoon-luncheon (Karen Averitt is unable to help this year), boats and drivers are needed.  An election committee is needed for officer nominations.  We also need a committee to collect the canned foods at meetings and deliver them to the Newport Food Bank.
6)  Since the May meeting is so close to the Memorial Day holiday, after discussion, a motion was made by Alice Hoffman and seconded by Marguerite Beyersdorf to cancel the May meeting.

There were 18 attendees:  Pam Zarko, Betty Jansen, Kathy Crisp, Alice Hoffman, Jeanne Ross, Marguerite Beyersdorf, Kathy Newcomb, Roberta Dumont, Karolyn Lee, Jill Short, Maria Bullock, Bonnie Stafford, Jeri Prange, Dorothy Beyersdorf, Pat Wood, Pattie Risner (& RJ), Charlie Beckham, & Sally Gallo.

SACHEEN LAKE “LADIES OF THE LAKE”

Luncheon Meeting at the Ranch Club Golf Course Restaurant

June 24, 2009

President Jill Short called the meeting to order with 20 members and 3 guests (not including RJ Risner). Alice Hoffman introduced her guests: Sandra H, Charice B, and Carol D.

Acting secretary, Carol Hood, read the May 27, 2009 meeting minutes. They were accepted as read.

Treasurer Dorothy Beyersdorf reported $705.24 in the treasury. She took in $24 for calendars and $50 for memberships. A check for $59 was sent to the Food Bank.

Charlie Beckham of the nominating committee reported little progress in finding people willing to serve on the next Board. Maria Bullock and Carol Hood indicated they are willing to serve as secretary. There was little discussion!

Bonnie Stafford reported that Christie Birch and Eleanor McMurray had June birthdays and cards had been sent. She also reported $168.66 in her funds.

Jill’s calendar report:  Costco Online was expensive and awkward to get calendars ordered. Then Jill asked the PUD who printed the calendars they hand out. They sent Jill to Jim Hanson at Pressworks, Inc. in Spokane. He quoted her $7.60 each if we order 250, or $8.00 if we order 200. That would give more money to our charities. And he’s willing to put the holidays and previous/next months on each month’s page. Jill will proceed with Pressworks.

Linda Walters is resurrecting the cookbook project. Depending on the number of recipes they receive, they have several formatting options. Recipes can be submitted to Dorothy Beyersdorf or Linda Walters by the July meeting on July 22, 2009.

Julie Johnson mentioned her efforts to get a street light installed at the intersection of Fertile Valley Road and Hwy 211. The PUD quoted her $100 for the pole and will charge $8/month for the light. It was suggested she might bring it up to the SBA Board for financing. It is a dark and dangerous intersection at night.

Jill won $15 in the 50/50 raffle.

The next meeting will be at Gina Lillie’s home on July 22, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. Bring finger foods, items to auction off, and lots of money.

September 24, 2008

The September 24, 2008 Ladies of the Lake Meeting was held at Coppers Restaurant in Newport, Washington.

President, Jill Short, called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m., there were 22 members present.

Calendars were distributed to those who had ordered and prepaid. Jill said calendars can be ordered in batches of 25 so we can still order more calendars if necessary. The sale of calendars is going very well and prepaying is very helpful to the calendar committee. The new calendars show the Ladies of the Lake meet on the 4th Thursday of each month. After a short discussion a vote was taken and the majority decided that we will continue to meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month as usual.

There was no reading of the minutes of August because the secretary was not in attendance. Jill thanked Karolyn Lee for volunteering to take the minutes.

A thank you was extended to Marilu, Julie and Alice for doing the Progressive Lunch last month.

A brief discussion was held as to where we were going to have next months' meeting and Halloween party. Jill called for volunteers and as there weren't any it was decided to let Pam Zarko decide if she wanted to host the meeting as she has done in the past 4 or 5 years. Jill will call Pam and inquire about the event when Pam returns from Germany.

There will be no meeting in November due to Thanksgiving.

Patti Risner reported on her findings for the Christmas party. She called the Tea House and we would all be in separate rooms and couldn't be together even for a meeting so that was ruled out. She called the Clear Water Lodge at Davis Lake and they can accommodate us.  Several members reported they enjoyed the Lodge and the meals at Clear Water. Julie Johnson moved that we have our Christmas Party at the Clear Water Lodge and Bonnie Stafford seconded the motion. The motion was passed by a majority vote. Patti will call the Clear Water Lodge and get prices and give them an estimate of the number of members attending.  Bonnie Stafford moved that the party and meeting be held on December 10th, Julie Johnson seconded the motion and it was approved by majority vote.  We will be having a gift exchange and the monetary

limit is $15 to $20. No names are to be put on the gifts, but they will be numbered when received at the beginning of the party. This is to be a "stealing" exchange again this year.

Dorothy Beyersdorf gave the treasurers report.  We currently have $1982.00 in the checking account after $2110.47 was paid to the printer for the calendar order. We currently have 20 outstanding calendars and we will have to pay approximately $39.00 in postage because some members wanted their calendars sent to them. Those members prepaid the postage.

Pat Wood gave a report from the Charities Committee. The members are Pat Wood, Dorothy Beyersdorf and Charlie Beckham.   Pat reported that $800.50 was received from the annual auction at Gina Lillie's home. At the close of 2007 we had $504.00 left in the treasury and we always leave $100.00 in the checking account for any miscellaneous items and of the remainder 75% is given to charity which gave us $1400.00 to donate. The committee decided that Ladies of the Lake would donate $350.00 to Head Start snack program for snacks and milk for 3-5 year olds, $350.00 would be given to Hospice, $350 would be given to Rural Resources for Senior

Baskets and $350 would be given to Fire District #3/Sacheen Station to buy equipment for their 4- wheelers. The Committee had received an E-mail from Beryl Pielli suggesting that we consider giving the money toward a kitchen cart with wheels, trays, etc. and things to help the auxiliary serve at functions. It was decided that the auxiliary should provide those things themselves and

Page 2

the committee wanted the money to go to the firefighters directly to help them in their jobs thus the money is specifically designated for the equipment for the 4-wheelers.

The Hilde Turner Sunshine report was given by Kathy Newcomb. She stated she had $148.18 in the checking account. All of the September birthdays were recognized. Kathy reported she is retiring as the Sunshine Lady. Jill Short thanked Kathy for her excellent job over the last 2 years. A call for volunteers was given by Jill Short and Patti Risner volunteered to do the 50/50 and Bonnie Stafford volunteered to do the cards and gifts. There were no other volunteers so Patti and Bonnie are now the Sunshine Ladies.  It was reported that Marguerite Beyersdorf fell and fractured her leg and the committee was asked to send a gift and card to her.  Her recovery is expected to be a lengthy one as following her surgery she will probably go to St. Luke’s Rehabilitation for therapy.  Cards from everyone would be very welcomed.

The 50/50 drawing was held and Genie Smead won $26.00

President Jill asked for any further business and there being none the meeting was adjourned at 1300.

The question was raised about the LOL monies being used for a luncheon for the Snowbirds who will soon be leaving for the south, as the annual dinner was not held in the fall of 2007. A discussion followed. Treasurer Dorothy Beyersdorf is in Seattle and the amount in the treasury was unknown.

Pam Zarko moved to donate the money to charity and Carol Hood seconded the motion. While Pam’s motion was on the floor, Pat Wood moved to have the LOL buy lunch for members at the September 2008 meeting and Patti Risner seconded the motion. April 23, 2008

Minutes of Meeting

Our meeting was held at Coppers Bar & Grill, Newport, WA. We had 17 members present.

ˇ         The reading of the March minutes was waived, due to Secretary being absent.

ˇ         Jill gave a report on the Calendar voting. 32 responses were received and the votes were 17 for All Subject Matter, 15 for Scenery & Animals Only. It was decided that we would vote on the pictures at the July Auction.

ˇ         Jill will ask for 3 or 4 volunteers to tally the votes on the pictures and post them on the boards. We will then know what 12 photos have won for the 2009 Calendar. People can then pre-order and pre-pay for their calendars or not. We will be keeping the cost at the $12 per calendar.

ˇ         It was also voted to have the Auction at Jan & Karen’s on July 23rd at 5pm

ˇ         Our auction will be quite busy this year so come prepared to get your photo taken with the group for the calendar

ˇ         Julie gave information to Jill regarding ordering the calendars through Petroglyph Printing in Newport. It was decided to use this company and keep the printing local. Jill thanked Julie and Charlie for getting this estimate.

ˇ         Beryl is still waiting for information on having our May 28th meeting at the Camas Center, Usk.

ˇ         June 25th meeting will be at The Ranch Club in Priest River. Pat Wood volunteered to set this up for us.

ˇ         Treasurer report was read by Patti Risner. $844.83 in the checking account as of April 19th. Our white elephant auction netted $237.00. It will be determined later how to spend that money as we have done in the past.

ˇ         Sunshine Fund report provided by Karen Averitt, Kathy Newcomb was absent. A plant was sent to Karolyn Lee. Balance in fund is $187.25. Winner of the $16 50/50 was Marilu Quast. Congratulations!

ˇ         August 27th Pontoon Progressive Luncheon was discussed. Possible homes are as follows: Denise Sargent for Tiki Bar, Julie Johnson for Salads, Dessert and meeting at Alice Hoffman’s. Boat assignments and food assignments to follow. Karen will make the arrangements BUT would like to teach a new volunteer, it’s not rocket science, just some time for details. So if you love details Volunteer!

Members present: Jeanne Ross, Alice Hoffman, Rose Doupe, Betty Jansen, Marguerite Beyersdorf, Marilu Quast, Patti Risner, Jill Short, Pam Zarko, Bonnie Stafford, Carol Hood, Pat Wood, Linda Benzo, Julie Johnson, Sally Gallo, Linda Cannon, and Karen Averitt.

VERY IMPORTANT!! WE NEED FEED BACK ON THESE 2 ITEMS ASAP!

1.  After some discussion at the March meeting, where it was determined only animals and scenery would be allowed in the calendar. I DECIDED to put this question out by email for your input. In the past any photos submitted to the calendar contest that were  the top 12 vote getters were put in the calendar. This year it was suggested that we limit entries to only scenery and critters (no people). Do you want to limit the content of the photos, or still go with the 12 that get the most votes? Please let us know by April 15'th.
Also, Costco is no longer printing calendars, so we have to get new estimates and choose a printer before we'll know this year's price. It was asked if people could see the calendar photos prior to purchasing them.
It was suggested that the winning photos be scanned and emailed to everyone. This task would require someone with DSL or HighSpeed Internet access, willing to take on this job. Also remember if you have dialup Internet it could easily take an hour or 2  to download photos to your computer.  One other way to handle this would be to count the votes on the pictures at the July Meeting(Auction). That way everyone at the auction will know what photos won. You could then pre-order your calendar and we would then go to print, once the Ladies group picture is taken.

2. Gina Lilly is unable to host a July auction this year at her home. We could book the fire station, or Karen Averitt offered her home. Gina said a September auction would work at her home, but that's when we usually do the evening dinner before snowbirds leave. Would you prefer the fire station or Karen's home in July, or a September auction at Gina's in lieu of the September dinner?

Thank you for your speedy responses.
Jill

SACHEEN LAKE "LADIES OF THE LAKE" MEETING

March 26, 2008

The meeting was called to order by President Jill Short at Sally Gallo’s home with 12 ladies present. Members then enjoyed the potato bake, salads and desserts.

President Jill Short discussed the following:

Jill discussed Bill Lee’s cancer prognosis. A discussion followed. Several suggestions were made: A tree be purchased for the Lee’s home, have members clean the Lee home once a week, have members assist with grocery shopping, etc. At this time Karolyn is able to meet Bill’s needs. Members were encouraged to send Bill a get-well card.

Jill had talked with Regina Lillie (in San Francisco) who thought it would be better to either hold the Annual July Auction somewhere other than her home due to hot weather, the need to locate so many fans, etc. or hold it at the fire station. She indicated that she could have it in September at her home, it was mentioned that our September meeting is usually the dinner one. Karen Averitt offered her home for the July Auction. A discussion followed. Jill will send out an e-mail to members asking for input for location of the July Auction.

Jill discovered that Costco is no longer printing calendars. A discussion followed. Sacheen Lake resident Garth Christenson provided a web site that could produce 250 saddle stitched calendars for $1,004.31. Anyone wanting to enter photos for the annual competition/publication in the LOL calendars would have to provide a digital disc and printed photo. Charlie Beckham, Rose Doupe and Julie Johnson will pursue two other publication/printing businesses for calendar printing bids. Calendar orders will be pre-paid. Bids will be brought back to the April LOL Meeting for review.

Concern was expressed about the calendar judging finalists photos including family members on the calendar. A discussion followed. Photos will include only scenery or animals. An email to be sent explaining new rules for feedback.

Jill will be seeing a heart surgeon in the near future for her heart valve repair. More information will be shared as it is available.

It was suggested that a plant be purchased for Bill Lee. A discussion followed. A concern was expressed about setting a precedent. After more discussion it was decided to send LOL member Karolyn Lee a plant as she just had surgery and to send get-well cards to Bill Lee.

Beryl Pielli met with the Camas Center events coordinator Debbie Flett about a possible May 28th luncheon meeting. Pielli requested that the $50.00 fee be waived and told Flett that the LOL members would like to eat and tour the Camas Center. Pielli wrote a letter to Flett asking to have the fee waived. The letter will be presented to the Kalispell Tribe Indian Council for consideration. More information will be shared as it available.

Jill reminded everyone that our April 23rd noon luncheon meeting will be held at the new "Copper’s" in downtown Newport.

Julie Johnson reported that while she was gone for a month PUD had failed to turn her power back on after an outage repair. After telephonic contact PUD restarted her power. Her brand new furnace kicked in and ran at 88 degrees for three days. Everything in her two freezers was a total loss.

Sally Gallo was thanked for graciously hosting our Annual LOL Potato Bake and White Elephant. Money raised at this auction will buy members lunch at the next meeting.

Treasurer Dorothy Beyersdorf reported that there is $607.08 in the LOL checking account.

Due to time constraints the February 27th LOL Meeting Minutes were not read but are on file for review

Sunshine Lady Kathy Newcomb reported that there is $179.43 in the Sunshine Fund without today’s deposits. Cards were sent out to members celebrating March birthdays.

The 50/50 drawing was won by Jane Smith ($10.50). The meeting was then adjourned.

June 27, 2007 meeting was called to order by President Jill Short. We met at the Ranch Club and there were 25 members in attendance. Secretary Pielli was not in attendance and Karolyn Lee filled in. Minutes from previous meeting were not read.

The Treasurer, Dorothy Beyersdorf was not in attendance and the only report we received was from Jill Short. $1,572 in the Calendar account so far.

Marilyn Christensen from Rural Resources introduced Barb Qually from Youth.com. Barbara gave a short speech about her group and what they were trying to accomplish. She displayed a quilt that the staff had made and then stated the quilt is to be raffled off on August 31, 2007. She proceeded to sell tickets for the raffle. Barbara was grateful to the Ladies for the purchase of raffle tickets and the support offered to her group. She said she sold more tickets than what was planned.

Cathy Retterer spoke about the Ladies of the Lake photo album. She said that she needs old pictures of events and happenings around the lake and asked that everyone search their albums to help with the project.

Jill Short asked the group if we wanted to extend the prepaid order time to July 30th. She asked how many extra calendars should be ordered. Karen Averitt moved that the prepaid order date be extended to July 30th and we should order 50 additional on top of the prepaid calendars. Alice Hoffman seconded the motion and it was approved more majority vote.

Jill Short said she had received some complaints about the Group picture taken at Alice’s house. Some didn’t like the day, some the time still others didn’t like the picture. After a lengthy discussion and a show of hands it was decided that the first picture taken would be used without a retake. Jan Anderson will call Bill Betts to see if he can take the picture for the 2009 Calendar at Gina’s house in September. She will also call Gina to verify with Gina.

Jill Short after much persuasion she will remain President for another 2 years. This was met with great enthusiasm.

Kathy Newcomb gave the Sunshine report. She has $145.09 in the account. Last month Linda Benzo won the 50/50 for $20.50. Jill Short won $19 in today’s 50/50. There were 2 Sacheen Lake embroidered towels in a drawing; Genie Smead and Kathy Newcomb were the winners.

Sally Gallo told the group that since our February weather is so unpredictable, she would to host the Annual Potato Bake and White Elephant Auction in March. All present agreed with Sally’s request.

Ladies of the Lake at the new fire station on HWY 211

Hostesses: Linda Cannon, Charlie Beckham and Rose Doupe

We had 26 members in attendance.

President Jill was concerned that Bill Betz, photographer, hadn’t returned her calls regarding the group photo for the calendar. She asked the group to discuss asking Cindy Merritt to do the photo, since she is more available. The group felt she should go ahead with Cindy. She will ask for the photo shoot to be on June 2 at Alice Hoffman’s between 9 and 10 a.m. If it’s raining, we’ll reschedule.

Jill introduced our newest member, Patti Risner, her daughter. She has moved here from Kearns, Utah.

The minutes from the last meeting were summarized. In Beryl’s absence Pam Zarko took notes. Jill thanked Pam for filling in.

The pre-payments for calendars are going well. Pre-paying allows us to collect the printing costs before printing, rather than have Jill or another member finance it. The group discussed whether someone wanting to submit a photo for calendar voting needs to be a current member. A motion was made and seconded that we accept photo entries of the local area from anyone who wishes to contribute, regardless of whether or not they are members of L.O.L. Sixteen voted in favor of the motion and five were opposed. The motion carried. The committee prefers that photos are 4” x 6” or 5” x 7”, but 8” x 10” will also be accepted. If we need to buy more display boards, we will, and the committee will note what works and doesn’t for the next contest.

The progressive will be on July 25. Denise Sargent’s house will be the first stop, Alice will have salads, and dessert and voting for photos will be at Karen and Jan’s. Karen passed a sign up sheet for those interested in participating, so she can begin organizing food and boats.

Pat Wood will make a reservation for the group to meet at the golf club restaurant in Priest River on June 27th at noon. She will need a head count estimate.

Our September 22nd (on Saturday) is still on for our Annual Auction at Gina Lillie’s. We hope having it on a Saturday will bring out more Ladies for our major Fund Raiser of the year. The time will still be 5:30pm and finger foods are on the menu. So start thinking about the great recipes you have!

Kathy Newcomb won the April meeting’s 50/50. Linda Benzo won today’s 50/50 which was $20.50. Flower center pieces were won by Patti Risner, Karolyn Lee, Freda Longmire and Kathy Newcomb. Current money in fund is $124.59 + 20.50 makes $145.09.

May birthdays included Jill S., Julie J., Dorothy B., Linda D., Cathy R., Jean R., Louise D., and Genie S.

Jan Anderson reminded us that we voted to donate a tree with a plaque in Hilde Turner’s name for placement in the park. Jan will head the committee and Betty Janson and Pat Green will assist.

The treasury had $673.52 at the beginning of the meeting. More calendar payments and dues were collected and will be tallied for the next meeting.

Joanie Suttle gave a Fire Department update, and thanked L.O.L. again for generous donations through the years. Support from us and the Betterment Association is the reason Chief Havener felt we can use the station without charge. Mark secured a grant for a new 2007 fire truck which will be housed at Diamond Lake.   Sacheen will be getting an upgraded truck.  A grant was also received for 2 rescue jet skis, one of which will be at Sacheen. Joanie offered tours of the station for anyone interested.  Other groups wishing to use the station facilities would need to sign a contract if their date is available and pay a small fee.

This year’s charitable donations committee will be Dorothy Beyersdorf., Charlie Beckham., and Pat Wood-Committee Chairwoman.

Karen Averitt urged the group to comment to the Planning Commission on those issues impacting this area.  Bill Lee encouraged all of us to let the commission know how we feel about issues, even if we just send two sentences.  Any direction the voters give is valuable to them.  You may want to address RV lots/parks, shoreline regulations and development, “keyholing” which is also called “funneling”, what density is acceptable, dock size, what we want preserved, etc.  The deadline is June 11th.  Karen will send some addition information to Jill to send out to all members.

Karen also said developer Bob Holland has purchased the old resort and 52 acres on the other side of HWY 211. He has the distinction of damaging one of the few remaining Kokanee spawning beds to enlarge his marina docks and only receiving a small fine. Some people are trying to have him also held financially responsible for repairing the damage. We need to be vigilant for anything illegally damaging being done at Sacheen.  Some of his other activities include “keyholing” at Diamond Lake, raising rents over 80% at 3 marinas shortly after he purchased them, not reporting that he broke a sewer line, and evicting low income trailer park residents to build expensive condo’s.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:55.

Members in attendance: Eleanor McMurray, Pam Zarko, Karolyn Lee, Pat Green, Betty Janson, Jan Anderson, Marguerite Beyersdorf, Freda Longmire, Linda Cannon, Charlie Beckham, Pat Wood, Linda Benzo, Joanie Suttle, Carole Garrett, Karen Averitt, Kathy Newcomb, Denise Sargent, Gina Lillie, Rose Doupe, Alice Hoffman, Patti, Risner, Jill Short, Dorothy Beyersdorf, Angela Newcomb (AJ & Abby attended) Lori Montaigue, Linda Doffing

April 25, 2007

The meeting was held at Beryl Pielli’s home.

Minutes of the March 28th meeting were read.

Sunshine Lady Kathy Newcomb reported there is presently $109.59 in the Sunshine Committee fund. A plant was delivered to Julie Johnson. Kathy then read a thank you note from Julie.

The following items were discussed:

1.   Jill summarized the calendar project:

  • Costco quoted a price of $8.71 per calendar.
  • 250 calendars will be ordered at Costco.
  •  Bill Betz will take a photo of the LOL in June or July at Alice Hoffman’s home.
  •  Because of low LOL funds and the $2,612.91 initial calendar order payment needed by Costco all calendar orders must be pre-paid by July 1st.
  •  July 1st is the calendar photo contest deadline.
  •  July 25 is the Progressive Luncheon and the 2008 calendar voting will take place.
  •  In September 2005 Julie paid for photographer Bill Betz’s services through a local auction. Bill then took the LOL 2007 calendar cover photo. Now Bill will not charge for his services. It was suggested that the LOL’s buy him a Sacheen Lake denim shirt.

  1. Charlie Beckham, Linda Cannon and Rose Doupe will host the May 23rd LOL potluck luncheon meeting at Station 32 at noon if it is available. Beryl will reserve the meeting room for 12 noon.
  2. Jill read a long over-due thank you letter from “Northwoods Performing Arts” for the LOL donation.
  3. Jill read an e-mail from Regina Lillie informing the LOL that she and her husband Jerry will be adopting a four year old Guatemalan orphan in the near future. The 15 month process will soon come to an end. It was felt that the little Spanish speaking girl will learn English much faster than we could ever learn to speak Spanish. Our good thoughts to Regina and Jerry!
  4. Beryl reported that Sally Gallo had left a message saying that Simmye Davis has cancer on her hand and due to a doctor’s appointment they were both unable to attend today’s LOL luncheon meeting.
  5. Kathy Crisp summarized her and Larry’s 41 years of living on Sacheen Lake before moving to Spokane and expressed a desire to remain a member of LOL. It was noted that several ladies have moved from the lake and still remain members as well as those who live in neighboring areas. All are most welcome to our social and philanthropic group which was formed to promote friendship among the ladies of Sacheen Lake.

Kathy Newcomb won the 50/50 raffle and collected $15.00.

The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted
